From Fjords to Future: Celebrating 80 Years of Wisdom from the Sea

This month, we’re raising a toast — and maybe a fillet of cod — to someone incredibly special to the Lofoten Seaweed story: Angelita Eriksen’s father, Angel Eriksen ( yes, she is named after him), who just turned 80!

A lifelong fisherman from the small village of Napp, his hands have weathered salt, sea, and seasons. For decades, he’s worked the waters of Lofoten and Finnmark with quiet strength, deep knowledge, and a respect for nature that you can’t learn from books — only from the ocean itself.

Angelita grew up by his side — cutting cod tongues as a kid, baiting long lines, and absorbing the rhythm of tides, seasons, and fish. These early lessons weren’t just about catching fish; they were about listening to the sea. They’re the same values that now shape everything we do at Lofoten Seaweed: sustainability, respect for nature, and carrying tradition forward with care.

While her path has taken her from the fishing boat to food innovation and entrepreneurship, Angelita’s roots remain firmly planted in the salt-stained decks of her childhood — and in her father’s legacy. His stories, techniques, and unwavering connection to the ocean continue to guide her work, and by extension, everything we create.
